Ski Canada - Winter 2001

In the Winter 2001issue of Ski Canada Magazine, Silver Star received two awards: Best Blue Square Cruiser "Gypsy Queen" and Best Winch-Cat-Groomed "Bon Diablo.

A four page article on Silver Star's Dag Aabye was also featured in this issue.

Ski Press - Winter 2001

"There are so many steep runs, so many bump runs, and so much terrain that will rattle your brain - especially at Putnam - you can ski all day with lift access and still get whipped.

Ski Canada

"The freeride runs - and there are dozens - range from tight little gullies...to big open faces....This isn't above- treeline high-alpine terrain like you'd find at Whistler -Blackcomb, but it's as varied and, in places, as steep. And you'd be hard-pressed to ski every run in a day."

"Silver Star has terrain to spare. During the peak holidays last Christmas-New Year's, the Putnam Creek area skied as if it were mid-week. There was plenty of space on the cruisers, and the ungroomed freeride terrain was virtually deserted."

Holiday Maker

Silver Star is treasured by B.C. skiers who dislike lengthy life line ups, want good powder snow and more reasonable prices.

Ski Canada

"The best skiing for under $50 dollars per day: In Canada, the winner among destination resorts has to be Silver Star"

Powder

"Make no mistake. Silver Star does live up to its 'best family resort' reputation. But, skiers in the know have learned that this mountain has a split personality and that nearly half of the area is occupied by steep runs, glades and drops."

Outside

"A wonderful mix of terrain that beats you up on the mountain's backside and then ushers you ever so gently back to your condo on the sweetly groomed runs down the front."

"Putnam starts with the uh-oh chutes and ends with oh-shit glades. It's some of the most challenging on-piste terrain in B.C."

"...runs are generous, lines short or non-existent, and the degree of thighus fryus at the end of the day feels big mountain indeed."

World Traveler

"Free of pretensions, Silver Star substitutes a sense of whimsy. No one cares who skied the toughest run, who has the coolest Revos. Did you have a good time?"

"The south (Vance Creek) face of Silver Star matches its village: sunny, smiley, family-oriented... In contrast, the north (Putnam Creek) face even looks dark and mean. If this were a Western, Putnam Creek would be the bad guy in the black hat."

Horizon Air

"A decidedly family-friendly focus. The village is big enough to offer plenty of restaurants and entertainment, but small enough that kids can wander at will."

"Dropping into narrow trails such as Headwall and Gong Show, is like stepping off a ladder, each turn entailing a small leap of faith and a drop of several feet."

Skiing Magazine

"A skier's fantasy in the Canadian woods. The whole resort is a whimsical fantasy - just plain smile-provoking fun... Lifts and trails are just steps from lodging."

Skiing Winter '99

"...a quaint-looking walking-street lined with hotels, shops, and restaurants..."

"Each of the resort's myriad buildings is built with a design that appears to be simultaneously Victorian and Wild West, topped off with a charismatic paint job..."

"The rest were nothing but mom-and-pops, day trips for locals maybe, but certainly not vacation spots. But then here we are with our cocoa and schnapps - affordable cocoa and schnapps - taking a breather before exploring powdery off - piste bowls, exploring them, I might add, virtually alone."

Mountain Magazine

"Hidden Gem ...
underrated ...
big terrain..."

Canadian Magazine '99

"To ski the first time at Silver Star is to enter the gates of a New World of skiing heaven..."

BC Woman

"If the words skiing and vacation, conjure up images of long line-ups on the slopes of expensive alpine resorts, you obviously haven't discovered Vernon's Silver Star Resort."

Ski Canada

"A decent dump here can be as high as Michael Jordan's butt."
