Time Flies

February 24th, 2010

Doesn’t seem like much bloggin’ has been going on recently so I felt somewhat obliged ……… February 24! Where has the time gone? It seems like only a week or two ago and we were celebrating 2010! That’s what happens I guess. It’s been a great season and the best is yet to come! It’s dumping snow right now, we have an awesome line-up of events coming up between now and April 4, so be sure to check in on the events calendar. The radar is scattered with sunny and snowy days and I’ve got my fingers crossed for the great spring skiing we all know and love.

From an events side of things, the Silver Star Games has been a huge success. Thanks to all the families that have come out to participate; they aren’t done yet though. We still have three days of games left, not to mention Silver Star’s first ever Cardboard Sled Derby on February 27!

Just so I could sound like I knew what I was talking about I grabbed a beat up old box the other day and tested it’s “slide-ability” on the cat track by my house. I’ll say this much; it’s faster than it looks. I hope everyone is busy creating their cardboard masterpiece, as it’s sure to be a fun time. All the information can be found by clicking here or visit the Info Desk.

Alright, best get back to work. I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their season. While the golf courses are itching to open —  we’re not done yet and it’s still puking snow — so get out there before it’s too late!

1516 Drop In Rail Jam

December 29th, 2009

Tuesday morning and the village is still buzzing about last night’s Rail Jam. First of all I’d like to thank everyone who helped out; Cooper, Nick, Matty and Jake you guys did a great job on the judging. I think we saw the highest competitor numbers in the history of this event yesterday. Bouche and Andy, the announcing was awesome, the crowd was entertained and competitors were well controlled. To everyone that came out to watch, Thank You; an event isn’t an event without spectators and again we saw some of the highest numbers these jams have ever seen. Park Crew the set up was sick and pushed the riders to throw down.

Noah Morrison claimed 1st for skiers with a crazy Rodeo 630 off the canon, Mike Rapinchuk from Park Crew – I don’t even know what those tricks are called but they looked sweet. Shout out to Mike Shaw who was killing it all night long as he tends to do, he took a few big slams but got back up and continued to shred hard, showing his skill and determination! Everyone I have spoken to was super pumped on the Jam so Thank You to everyone that made it what it was.

There are some awesome shots from last night on the photo gallery of our website and I encourage everyone to take a peak. While you’re on there check out the Events Calendar for more fun times. The next Rail Jam isn’t until February 6th but we’ve got plenty to keep us busy until then. Placings for all categories can be found in the News on the homepage.

It’s snowing again!!

Dreaming of a white Christmas

December 24th, 2009

Well Ladies and Gents, Christmas is right around the corner. Whether you’re all about the festivities or you’re just stoked to have a couple of weeks off work to ski; we have plenty to keep you occupied up here.
From Gingerbread House building, Santas Gift-Giving and of course the Torchlight Parade and Fireworks there’s something for the whole family. Check our website for more details on these events. On top of that the conditions out on-hill are incredible, a few runs on Friday was all I needed to put a smile on my face and with this new snow falling right now I’m finding it slightly difficult to concentrate on anything but skiing.

I’m a firm believer that this is the season for giving so I’m giving myself one hour to get my work done before I take the new pow sticks out for a shred.

See you out there, and Merry Christmas

“In Deep” On Opening Day

November 18th, 2009

Only 10 days left until the season starts. My new ski gear has been staring at me for the last two weeks, just waiting to touch snow and all my ski movies have been watched so many times they’re starting to skip.

The events calendar is filling up and it’s looking to be a busy and exciting season. From rail jams to FIS cup races, winter carnival, and tons of fun stuff during the Olympics, Silver Star is the place to be —  if you’re not into the Vancouver 2010 hype.

First on the list; the new MSP ski movie “In Deep” showing in the NATC.  on opening day, November 28. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. I watched this movie last weekend. I was trying to hold out, but couldn’t put it off any longer. Let me tell you I was stoked! Once again the Matchstick Crew lived up to its reputation for being amongst the best in the film industry. The movie features some insane skiing from Sean Pettit, Abma, T.J. and many more. They’ve also got an awesome tribute to the late Shane McConkey. There’s not a skier out there that won’t like this movie. The event itself is going to be super fun and for any true McConkey fans we’re having a Saucer Boy contest, best costume takes home a Nintendo Wii. There’s an after-party in the Saloon and a sale in Ski Dazzle for any movie go’ers looking for some new winter gear.

For up-to-date information on any of our events please check out our events calendar on the Silver Star website or stay tuned for some more events blog action.

See you in the lift line!
