Working at Silver Star Mountain Resort
At Silver Star Mountain Resort our success depends on many factors. The mountain is blessed with great snow, over 100 downhill runs and wonderful facilities, but our most important asset is our fantastic staff. Silver Star Mountain Resort is constantly looking for individuals who are committed to providing quality guest service with a smile and enthusiasm.

Living at Silver Star Mountain Resort… or perhaps commuting from Vernon

To begin to describe what life at Silver Star Mountain Resort is like, you have to imagine living in a Victorian-inspired ski village that accommodates over 3,500 people with some of the world's best skiing and riding terrain all around you. The village is a world class winter community with recreational facilities that include a skating rink, a tube park, snowmobiling and many restaurants and bars. A season at Silver Star Mountain Resort could be the time of your life!

Another option is to live in Vernon, a city of 40,000 at the top of the Okanagan Valley. Excellent urban facilities beautiful views Lake Okanagan and a great shopping, activities and night life make Vernon a perfect choice for those that cannot live without all of those city amenities. Accommodations, Wages and the Cost of Living

The fall and early ski season are very busy times at Silver Star Mountain Resort. Many prospective employees are arriving for job interviews and work. Also everyone is looking for winter accommodations. Currently Silver Star Mountain Resort does not provide staff accommodations. We recommend that you arrive with pre-arranged accommodations.

The average entry level job at Silver Star Mountain Resort has a starting wage of $8.00 per hour and most staff work from 32 to 40 hours per week. Each entry level staff member is eligible for a raise after the first three months.

The average employee pays from $350 to $450 per month for shared accommodations. This ranges from several friends renting a house to two to four folks renting a one bedroom condo.

Silver Star Mountain Resort's winter season can start as early as mid October or as late as early December. Because of this, some time can pass between your successful job interview and your employment start date. To deal with this time you should come with sufficient money to carry you for at least one month.

Employee Benefits and Discount Program

For all full time employees who commit to a full season at Silver Star Mountain Resort, the skiing and riding is free. Each receives a complimentary dual mountain season pass for Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort. This pass gives them access to great Canadian powder and mountain terrain that varies from well groomed cruisers to some of the most challenging winter terrain in the world. The staff pass is also each employee's passport to a variety of deals that includes discounts on food, skis and snow boards, other retail items, rentals and great lessons.

In addition, Silver Star Mountain Resort employees are eligible to ski and ride for free or at great discounted rates at over 30 ski resorts spread across British Columbia, Alberta and the North-West United States.

Personal Grooming

At Silver Star Mountain Resort we always work to project a positive image for ourselves and for the resort. We welcome guests from all over the world and we rely on our team members to use good judgment and commit to their position at Silver Star Mountain Resort. To help accomplish this, all Silver Star Mountain Resort staff must maintain a professional, clean, crisp appearance. 

Foreign Applicants

To work at Silver Star Mountain Resort, you must be a Canadian citizen or you must have a valid Canadian Visa and Work Permit. All foreign workers must present your Canadian Visa and Work Permit, a Canadian Social Insurance Number, or proof that you have already applied for your Canadian Social Insurance Number and a copy of your travel insurance.

Getting all of these items together can take some time; so start early. Here's some tips.

Please note that Silver Star Mountain Resort does not give letters of offer to foreign workers.

You should immediately apply for your Canadian Social Insurance Number upon your arrival in Canada. You can apply from your home country but it involves a lengthy process. To find the closest Human Resources Department of Canada office when you arrive in Canada and to understand the application process go to http://www.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca 

All foreign applicants must provide proof of valid traveler's insurance for the duration of your employment with Silver Star Mountain Resort. Medical coverage is an important consideration for all foreign travelers while in Canada.
