COACHES
Norman-Kreutz-Portrait-300dpi.jpg

Name: Norman Kreutz
FSAC Program Director
Certifications:
CSIA Level 4, CSCF Level 3,
Years working at Silver Star: 30 Years.

Bio:  With 35 years of coaching and teaching experience Silver Star’s Director of Snowsports, Norman Kreutz, has a long list of credentials. Norman started skiing at a young age, racing right through to FIS level with the Lake Superior Ski Division in his home town of Thunder Bay, Ontario, moving out west in 1979 to teach skiing. Racing was and always will be his passion.

While working through the ranks of his ski teaching and coaching career Norman always used gate training to keep his skills honed. The Pacific Western Pro Tour kept Norman’s competitive spirit flowing throughout the early 80’s. By 1983 Norman had achieved his Level 4 CSIA certification and became a Course Conductor shortly thereafter. He continued his education through the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation where he attained his Level 3 coaching status.

1984 saw Norman move further west to run the Silver Star Snowsport School. In 1988 Norman took on duties as Western Course Director for the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. Throughout his 14 years with the CSIA he had the opportunity to ski throughout the world and most notably be involved as either coach or skier in no less than four Interski teams.

2002 saw Norman return to Silver Star as Director of Snowsports. With his influence Norman’s sons Alex and Matthew raced to the highest levels with the Vernon Ski Club reaching the top of podiums in Provincial and National races. Norman has been, and still is a mentor to all in the ski instruction industry in Canada; incredibly well respected for his skiing and teaching ability.

Bryony-Simpson-portrait-300dpi.jpg

Name: Bryony Simpson
FSAC Program Head Coach 2014/2015.
Certifications:
CSIA Level 3, CSCF Level 3 Trained, Level 2 Alpine Ski Race Official
Years working at Silver Star: 1st Year

Bio:  Bryony Simpson is a Level 3 Coach and a Level 3 Instructor, with 14 years of experience coaching in Ontario working with all ages of athletes from 6-22 years old.  She continues to work towards more certification actively pursuing her Level 4 Instructor, which is the highest level of certification in Canada.

For the last 7 years Bryony has been working with U18/21 & FIS (U18/21 are athletes 16-23 years old), while also fitting in a season working at the National Ski Academy at U14 (athletes 12-14 old).  Working at that level Bryony has gained a wealth of experience about course setting, athlete development, technical ski improvement, and mental preparation.  She has coached a wide variety of athletes ranging from those working their way up from the bottom to elite athletes vying for the podium.

Bryony’s ski racing career started at six years old with regular visits to the podium.  In her teens she continued to find success in regional racing medalling, becoming J1 & J2 overall season winner at 17.  You will still find her running gates whenever she has the chance.

Bryony champions ski racing as a great avenue for personal development. She is passionate about skiing and ski racing and it shows in the way she interacts with athletes of any age.  She is dedicated to providing safe environment for athletes to improve their skiing while having loads of fun.

“If I could coach full time and race full time I’d be in heaven but logistics make that impossible.  I was a FIS racer as a teenager and reluctantly stopped to attend University - however I still love to run gates.  Every day, and every turn are opportunities to try to achieve the elusive and ever moving target of the perfect turn.” – Bryony Simpson.

Gerard-Beallie-Portrait-300dpi.jpg

Name: Gerard Beallie
FSAC Program Coach
Certifications:
CSIA Level 4, CSCF Level 2, CASI Level 1
Years working at Silver Star: 3rd Year

Bio:  At the age of 12 Gerard learned to ski in the town of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies.  As soon as he was able to, Gerard became a member of the local race team.  This gave Gerard the unique experience of growing up learning how to ski and also racing right out of the gate!  After spending some time on the race team, he graduated high school but knew he had to stay involved with racing and skiing in general.  So Gerard began instructing during the week and coaching for the Nancy Greene program on the weekends.  Seeing the difference he could make with the children in and out of the race course was very rewarding and only confirmed his choices were the correct ones.  Gerard still feels that way to this day.

After a few years in that program, Gerard began coaching with the local race team, which he was a member of when he was a teenager.  This gave Gerard great pride and allowed him to learn from other amazing coaches.

Gerard’s life on the slopes consisted of coaching on weekends; setting courses for local race events and racing in any events he could enter.

“Being a ski racer and coach isn't just what I do, but who I am. The passion for this great sport that I, and many others have is alive and thriving here at Silver Star, which I now call home.  So I encourage you to come join me and get in on the fun! Watching the kids I have coached improve, is always such a rewarding experience.” – Gerard Beallie.

Kyle-Arink-Portrait-300dpi.jpg

Name: Kyle Arink
FSAC Program Coach
Certifications:
CSIA Level 3, CSCF Level 2, CASI Level 1, ParknPipe 1, CANSI(Tele) Level 1

Kyle started his racing career at the age of 4, growing up in Edmonton Alberta at the Snow Valley Ski Club.  He raced for 13 years, through the Nancy Green program, K1, K2, and a year into Junior.  Those 13 years fueled his passion for the sport.

At the age of 17 skiing took Kyle on a new path and he started coaching and instructing. Kyle has been coaching for 8 years and it has taken him all around the world; Canada, Japan, and also Australia.

“Over the years I have coached many different age groups, from as young as 4 to as old as 85.  I enjoy coaching because I get to have fun on snow and share my love for the sport with people who share that same passion.  I look forward to having some fun on the snow with you this winter and in winters to come.” – Kyle Arink
