The summer season is all wrapped up and the wooden features have been removed or put to rest for the winter. Patrol has taken down all their signage and fencing to turn the bike park back into a ski hill for the snowy months to come. Despite the poor weather to start the season and the economy not being great it was still a good summer for the bike park. For those interested in the health of the bike park numbers we were up slightly in day tickets and seasons passes but down a bit in other areas, so not too bad. Overall it was a great summer for conditions and some great riding. The bonus weekends were amazing and the bike festival we hosted was definitely a major highlight for the whole summer.
It is now time for fall riding around the valley on all the different trails that the great Okanagan has to offer. Be it XC or DH, fall riding is one of my favorite times of year. The temperature is cooler, the colours beautiful and the trails are typically nice and tacky. Check out the recent Pinkbike post by Jason Martin, one of our hard working trail crew, about a day of biking in Kal Park.
Other fun things to do in the fall are getting together with friends like the North Okanagan Cycling Society who are putting on a movie premier of From the Inside Out by Second Base Films, Wednesday night November 23rd (the night before we hope to open the ski hill!!!) at the Towne Cinema - $15. There are going to be two films shown, one bike video – From the Inside out and a new ski video – All I can by Sherpa Cinemas. It is going to be a great night, with good friends, two amazing films and lots of prizes (like a pair of skis from local manufacturers Skevik Skis) so make sure you go pick up your tickets at any of the local bike shops ASAP (Skyride, Olympia and Sun Country). This is a fundraiser for NOC’s so you know all the money goes to a good place! See you there.
Enjoy the ride,
