Your heart is racing. Gasping for breath you realize you have one chance to get it right. Your teammates have all been eliminated — the only chance for victory lies squarely on your shoulders. You peak out around the corner for one last look before making your final stand. Then it hits you, literally. Game over.
Building on the success of its world renowned bike park, Silver Star is looking to leave its mark on the summer season with a new product.
Michael Sherwood, general manager of Silver Star Mountain Resort, has announced the arrival of Silver Star Paintball this summer.
“We’re really excited about this new addition,” said Sherwood. “We’ve seen tremendous growth in Silver Star Bike Park in the past three years and as we continued to grow we recognized the need to build on our success. We think Silver Star Paintball fits that need as it offers another unique alternative to the Silver Star experience.”
Another selling feature will be the resorts elevation. At one-mile above sea level, Silver Star offers cooler daytime temperatures compared to the valley bottom, said Sherwood.
Silver Star Paintball will open June 26, coinciding with the launch of the summer biking and hiking season. The courses will be open every Thursday to Sunday during the summer season, from noon until 8 p.m. Paintball will feature three courses for players to choose from, and will be located in parking lot E. The parking lot is situated west of Silver Star’s village, opposite the entrance to the Ridge sub-division. Sherwood said the location ensures safety for both the customers of Paintball and for those who use the mountain for biking and hiking.
“We are conscious of positioning Silver Star Paintball in a place that won’t interfere with our other summer products.”
Silver Star Paintball will have an bone-yard course, using decommissioned equipment from the resort as its backdrop. In addition there will be a western theme area and a woods course. Customers will be able to play individual games or purchase a membership for the season.
Visitors coming for an individual game will pay a $20 field fee which also includes a marker, armour, goggles and mask, hopper (holds 200 balls), and an air tank with unlimited refills. Paintballs will be priced between $20 and $25 for 500, depending on the quality. Silver Star will have their own unique colour of paintballs that are exclusive to all three courses. Players with their own equipment can purchase unlimited air for $10 and access the field for $5.
Memberships will cost $100 for the season and include the following benefits: no field fees, 50 per cent discount on air refills, reduced rates on paintballs, and a four-time punchcard offering a 50 per cent discount on field fees when members bring a friend.
Sherwood said Silver Star will offer its 2007/08 winter season pass holders a 25 per cent discount on field fees.
“We’ve already had a strong response from the few people that have heard about our plans. We are anticipating a great summer up at the Star.”
Players must be at least 12 years old and anyone under 19 must have must have signed consent from a parent or guardian before they can play.
Sherwood said he believes Paintball will also be a hit for corporate and group events. Group or corporate bookings can be made by calling (250) 558-6043. For more information on Silver Star Paintball
