Bike Park extraordinaire
If you're looking for mountain biking for beginners to experts, this place has it all. Well, except the lift lines. It has downhill and cross-country trails but the DH is so fun we hardly cracked the XC trails. We camped in the parking/camping area (basic amenities like showers and sink for dishes are welcome at the end of the day), ate at the red antler for a breakfast and a dinner, but mainly cooked at our campsite. Everyone at the resort from the ticket counter people to the lifties and waitstaff, rental staff and bike school was super friendly. Shane at the mountain bike school was able to pair me with a great instructor (Tim) who helped me take my riding to the next level. We would come back in an instant.
Shhhh! Don't tell anyone!
Silver Star in the summer is amazing! The bike park is currently ranked #2, just behind Whistler. And it deserves it....they had the foresight to open the XC ski trails to the mountain bikes!! So, while the downhill trails are epic, for those of us who would like a somewhat gentler experience, it's there. Hiking trails abound...straight up the mountain, or meander through the gentle forest trails, or ride up the Summit Chair and stroll down. The General Store is open to stock up on supplies, or have a meal in the village. New this summer is the summer tube ride. I've never seen one before. You get up a good head of steam....and you can race against a friend in the adjacent tube! But don't tell anyone!
"Fantastic Mountain Biking in the Summer!”
They have a fantastic variety of well maintained mountain bike trails. Silver Star is great for the beginner to the expert. It's the perfect place to try mountain biking for the first time. They have a rental shop that will help you get all geared up with everything you will need for a fun and safe day on the trails. You can take lessons or just head out on the mountain.
There really is something for all abilities...from the greens to the double blacks. The staff at Silver Star are helpful and are always happy and smiling. Compared to Whistler, you will find shorter lift lines, quieter trails that are often better maintained and no attitude.
If biking isn't your thing, there are some beautiful hiking trails that weave all over themountain. You will be rewarded with sweeping views of the valley and meadows full of colourful wildflowers. You might even spot some deer and/or bears.
“Excellent downhill mountain biking!”
Loved everything about Silverstar! Trails were great. Very well thought out and maintained. Progression of the trails here is excellent. My kids did semi private lessons one day and a kids bike camp another day and they learned a ton. The village is cute with several delicious places to eat. Can't wait to come back and bike here again!!
